Background:

Intel celebrates its achievements in education in India on the occasion of Teachers Day. Every year, Sept 5 is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India. This year, the Intel Teach program celebrates the teachers and students who have contributed to or benefited significantly from Intel Teach, IRIS Science Fairs and Intel Higher Ed programs. India has all core Intel Education Programs operating in the country: Intel Teach, Intel Learn, higher ed, science fairs (IRIS -- (IRIS-Initiative for Innovation and Research in Science)).

The event was hosted by the Fusion Club, an educators’ network of the Delhi region which brings together like-minded educationists who wish to make learning an interesting and rewarding experience for students. The objective of club is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas and enriching experiences in: integration of technology; innovative teaching approaches, and teacher development programs.

  • Offer public recognition of teachers and learners
  • Allow teachers and learners to interact with Intel and Dr. Craig Barrett –founder of Intel Education programs that touched their lives
  • Celebrate impact of Intel’s involvement in Education in India during the last 7 years
  • Reiterate importance of effectively integrating technology into teaching and learning practices to create impact beyond classroom and into really changing and empowering lives
  • Communicate Intel’s commitment across K-12, Higher Ed and Community in India
  • Highlight need for Industry Academia collaboration in Higher Ed

Details of the event

Mrs Balachandran welcomed the gathering on behalf of the Fusion Club New Delhi.

She thanked Dr. Barrett for making teachers part of this journey of Intel. She said that it has been a great pleasure for all of us to celebrate this very special day with CRB. On behalf of the entire Education Fraternity .she presented a Plaque as a remembrance of his having celebrated Teachers Day in India.

Initiative for Research & Innovation in Science (IRIS)

  • Intel entered into a partnership with Dept of Science and Technology (DST) at Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), resulting in merger of two programs, Intel Science Talent Discovery Fair and “Steer the Big Idea” into one program
    ‘IRIS – Initiative for Research & Innovation in Science.
  • The primary objective of IRIS is to promote and nurture science and scientific research amongst young Indian innovators by recognizing and rewarding outstanding projects and providing a platform for the young innovators at International
    events like ISEF and the International Exhibition for Young Innovators (IEYI).

Intel Higher Education:

Trained 1,000+ faculty members and 18,000 students across 150 institutes across the country over last 3 years. 100 more universities to participate by end of 2008 and beyond. To develop emerging engineering institutes, Intel India partnered with
UP Technical University for its Multi Core Program. U.P.T.U. is among the largest technical universities in India with about 160,000 students in 238 institutions/colleges.

Prof Prem Vrat, Vice Chancellor, UP Technology University was felicitated by Dr. Barrett.

Intel Learn Program Background :

  • First implemented in Kerala in 2004 in the district of Malappuram. Has impacted ~20,060 learners, touched 331
    Centers and trained 498 Akshaya Centre staff members, in Malappuram.
  • Kerala State Information Technology Mission (KSITM) is an autonomous nodal IT implementation agency for Dept of IT, Government of Kerala. Primary responsibilities include enhancing IT industry base in Kerala and ICT dissemination to bridge the digital divide.

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and Intel –Relationship

NVS and Intel® joined hands in 1999 with joint initiative launched by the Dept of Education and Intel to conduct a pilot in a few selected schools

Mr. O. Nabakishore Singh, Commissioner of NVS has done intensive research in area of formulating a strategy to balance the budget of and increase efficiency of State Govt of Manipur. He has held many responsible posts in state and central govt in various sectors. On behalf of NVS, Mr. O.N. Singh was honoured.
