“Computer Literacy Excellence Award” for schools, 2005.

Ms.Vaijayanti Prakash Pawar, Lecturer, Purushotam English School Aarambha Mahavidyalaya, Nashik has played a vital role in enabling the school to receive the “Computer Literacy Excellence Award ” for schools, 2005.The school was given a certificate and a cash prize of 1.5 lakhs to invest in the infrastructure of IT labs in the schools.

Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology , Government of India has instituted the annual “ Computer Literacy Excellence Awards for Schools ” to encourage schools towards achieving excellence in computer literacy and thereby consolidate the position of India as a major player in the global IT arena.

The award scheme at the state level and the national level was open to all recognized schools in the country. The awards were based on some parameters like IT infrastructure, trained faculty and participation in IT related events. There were 51 schools from all over India received the award from the benevolent hands of Hon’ble Union Minister for Communications & Informations Technology Thiru. Raja, on October 18, ’07 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Ms.Pawar is a teacher with a focus, trained under IntelŪTeach Program. Having trained more than 5000 teachers in Maharashtra, she plays a major role in her school in promoting the ICT by involving children in different activities. She is also the pioneer of MT Club of Nashik. Being the President of MT club, she organizes many activities for children of different schools in Nashik. “Hobby Club” was one such activity born out of Pawar’s Strong determination. The club has 220 teachers as members, which provides a platform for children to utilize the technological skills productively.

To adequately prepare students for the 21st century, she infuses the use of technology by providing all students with the access and the opportunity to have multiple hands-on experiences with technology. One such opportunity is children preparing various projects namely Navratri Festival, LOC and many more. ‘Hobby club’ announces competitions every year for the students, their projects are evaluated based on the innovative usage of ICT tools, and the outstanding projects receive the prizes at the end of the year.

Speaking on the pride moment of getting this prestigious award, Ms. Pawar said, “All this was possible only with the support of Mr.Mukesh Dabak, Vice Chairman of Managing Committee. He always extends his co-operation and motivates me to work towards empowerment of children in ICT education.” She was appointed as a Chief Co-coordinator when she joined the Institution. Today, she is responsible for 10 labs with 120-networked computers. In addition to being the department head of the school, she is also in charge of online exam conducted by Pune Secondary Board for 12th standard.

She recollects, “There is a drastic change in my personality after I’ve undergone the INTEL training at 2002. I have gained lots of confidence. I can face any problem related with technology and look for the solution too.I thank Intel from the bottom of my heart.”
