Friendship – Memories to Cherish……….

The students of Apeejay School Sheikh Sarai celebrated the Teachers’ day on 4th August’07.A project on “Friendship ” was taken for class IV students as a part of Problem Based Learning which was initiated by Intel in the month of May. Children were asked to collect all the materials and information in this regard during their Summer Vacation. The focus of the project was to improve all the four skills of a language: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

The implementation part of this project started in the month of July.Children were asked to write a paragraph on , “ My Best Friend” and on “The Friendship Day”.They browsed net to collect quotes on friendship and to send e-cards to their friends as well as to UKIERI Partner schools.Children composed poems as a group activity. Storybook was created and the cover for the same was also designed by them. To enhance their creativity, they were taught to make gift items out of waste materials for their friends.

The entire work of the students were exhibited on 4th August .The program began with a talk on , “Friendship Day” followed by a poem recited by a child on “ ATrue Friend”.A melodious song was sung by the students. Audience thoroughly enjoyed the electronic media presentation by two students. Students had invited some of their friends from other schools like D.P.S.R.K.Puram, D.P.S.International and G.D.Goenka who spoke confidently on the stage .A skit on the friendship of
Krishna and Sudhama was enacted by them .Children spoke their dialogues with a clarity in English .

The Principal Mrs.Sarta Manuja appreciated the efforts put in by the children and acknowledged the impact of PBL which enabled the children to learn the concepts effectively.Primary incharge Mrs.Neogy encouraged the students with a word of praise.

Children presented charts,posters and flyers prepared by them to all the Primary teachers to put up in their classroom. Children packed the sweets,pencils,chocolates etc as gifts and presented to the guest friends as a token of friendship on behalf of all the students of Apeejay School,Shikh Sarai.

The program came to an end with a vote of thanks by the students and with a national anthem.

The teachers recall, “ This project has helped the children to relate the lesson with real life situations.It enabled them to imbibe all the four skills of a language. Children also learnt to use the computers and the technology was integrated well.”
