:: A Report on Intel Awards- 2004

   

Intel® Awards are an annual feature of the Intel® Teach to the Future Program since its inception in the year 2000. This year it was held on 5th April, at Taj Residency, Vadodara. About 220 people attended the function. Some of the esteemed guests were principals and teachers of various private schools, Government aided schools and CBSE schools.

From the Pre-service fraternity there was the Dean, M.S University, Director, H.M. Patel, Principal, CVM college of Education, Prof & lecturers from M.S. University and various colleges of S.P University, lecturersfrom DIET of Mehsana, Anand and Baroda .Representatives from various colleges of SNDT Gujarat also graced the occasion.

Key Highlights: 

Ms. Promila Zalpuri, president Kshitij MT Club, Baroda extended a warm welcome to one and all, followed by Saraswati Vandana by the students of Baroda High School, Alkapuri and Bright School, Vasna. Mr. Anshul Sonak , K-12 Education Program Manager, Intel Innovation in Education Program, Intel -India started the ceremony by thanking Mr. H.N.Hingu chairperson GSHSEB, Mr. Srinivas Raman, General Manager for the EPG, Intel India and Mr. Ashutosh Chadha , Education Program Manager – Intel India, for consenting to grace the occasion. He started his speech with the quote “Teacher is an Artist and his canvas is the Human soul”. He presented an update on the Government program, Pre-Service program and the MT clubs 

Mr. Srinivas Raman, General Manager for the EPG, Intel India was invited to address the gathering. Mr. Raman congratulated all the winners. One of his key lines was “Education is the pivotal factor for a long term economical growth”. He explained that as educationists we need to understand that -today’s economy is knowledge based economy, which requires a change in the way we work, communicate, live and create.He brought forward the critical skills required to be successful in this technology lead world as –digital literacy, higher order thinking skills, good communication and life long learning. He elucidated that one has to train students not only to be a specialized worker but also to be a part of a successful team. He concluded his presentation by asking all the teachers to “continue to innovate”.

Presentation of Awards for the institutions:

Mr. Anshul invited Mr. Hingu and Mr. Srinivas Raman to present the awards. While felicitating the schools and institutions he also shared the key highlights as observed by the evaluation team.Mr. Hingu congratulated all the winners and Intel for their efforts in bringing a change in the education process. He said “Knowledge is earned in the school but education prepares us for facing the world.” He mentioned that besides training teachers and students and improvising the curriculum one “will not be able to change the way we teach and learn unless we change the way to evaluate.” His address assured the educationists about the keen involvement of Government in changing curriculum, teaching methods and evaluation process.

Presentation of Awards for Teachers, Teacher Educators and MT Clubs:

Mr. Nanavati and Mr. Ashutosh Chadha were invited to hand over the awards to the teachers and teacher educators. Mr. Hingu and Mr. Srinivas Raman were requested to present the awards to M.T. Clubs. The key highlights about each were shared with the audience.


Mr. Sonak thanked the gathering and concluded his speech by informing about the announcement of Intel contest - year 2005 to be published through the website. Mr. Ashutosh Chadha gave Vote of thanks and invited the audience and the dignitaries for High tea.All the winning teachers and teacher educators shared their work with the audience in the showcase area before and after the ceremony.

This event motivated hundreds of teachers and teacher educators to revolutionize the way they teach and their students learn. “I never realized the grandness of this award until this ceremony, Intel Awards is the best achievement of my teaching career” – as said by Suman Sood, winner for the teacher award.
