Synopsis Summary:
Basis of project: The computers have developed a lot especially in the fields of CPUs and GPUs.
Although their speeds have risen to a mind blowing number but there is a draw back of heating of chips.
In general the manufacturing companies provide cooling systems that are mounted on the processors which
just create convectional currents and don’t make any major changes in the processor temperatures.
When the processor heats there is hanging problems in the system because the processor
automatically stops working.
For a country like India which geographically lies in the sub-equatorial as well as equatorial region and is
also not as rich as developed countries therefore although people can afford mid range PCs but can’t afford
to run ACs because of their high recurring costs.
Brief Working: In this Project named Heat Buster there is a heat sin which uses fluid cooling systems to cool
the processors and transfer the heat to the atmosphere. There are several black painted copper pipes containing the pre
cooled coolant which is circulated through the cooling systems by means of pump. The pipes pass in the regular heat sink
several times thus absorbing the processors heat which is transferred to the systems cabinet and then radiated to the
atmosphere and the coolant is again cooled by means of a separate chamber.
The pipes passing through the cabinet walls increase the surface area for heat radiation.
Description Of Separate Chamber: In the external chamber there is a small pump (taken a small fish tank pump )
for circulating the coolant in the system. There is also one ice chamber in which the user has to fill in ice cubes.
The cooling tubes are passed from the ice chamber many time ( in coil form )thereby making the coolant cooled.
The ice chamber is adjustable and can be removed when the ice is converted into water.
This ice chamber is made of thermocole and plastic.
Earlier I thought of using a small compressor and construct a small refrigeration system enough to
fit in the system cabinet but at my level its not feasible work therefore I decided to use the ice chamber concept.
The final verdict: The project is not only a substitute for using ACs to run computers in good conditions but
also in turn reduces the harmful green house emissions from the ACs. In general this kit would cost around Rs. 1000/- and
also allow systems to run at 100% usage for longer durations of time while running high end applications (use 75% to 100%)
Idea of the project: I got the idea of making project from the daily heating problems of my PC at home.
I had to use coolers to cool the system to make my system run applications (sometimes high end applications).
Therefore I thought of making something such that my computer system doesn’t hang.
