The Intel Awards for the Best Integration of Technology in Education 2001 drew an enthusiastic response from all over the country. A total of 1,241 teachers and 146 schools  had sent in their entries.

A panel of 14  technology-savvy educationists, drawn from all over India, judged the qualifying entries. Eventually, 6 schools and 15 teachers won awards. Two schools won grants of Rs. 3 lakhs each and four schools won Rs. 1 lakh each. 15 winning teachers were presented with a multimedia computer each, based on the latest Intel processor for home users.

On February 14th 2002, the winners were honored in a three-hour ceremony held at Hotel Atria, Bangalore. Heads of the winning schools and the 15 winning teachers were flown into the city on February 13th and had an opportunity to interact with one another.

Winning projects on display

At the Awards Ceremony, the gathering was addressed by Mr. Avtar Saini, Director, South Asia, Intel Asia Electronics, and the Chief Guest, Ms. Meera Saxena, Principal Secretary to the Government of Karnataka, Primary and Secondary Education. The then Manager-Education Programs, India – Intel® Innovation in Education, Ms Aruna Ramanathan gave an update on the Program, aided by a comprehensive multimedia presentation. Principals and Heads of schools spoke about how their institutions were implementing the Intel® Teach to the Future program and appreciated the difference Intel has made to the teaching-learning process. Ms MC Sindhu, Consultant, Intel Education Program, South, was the compere of the ceremony and Ms Malyaj Varmani, Consultant, Intel Education Program, North, gave the vote of thanks. 

The winning teachers spoke about their work, their schools and their students, while portions of their work were displayed on giant screens. The winning projects, in their entirety, were displayed at kiosks in an adjacent room, and the guests had a chance to personally interact with them. This was followed by a sumptuous lunch and the beginning of another exciting phase: the third year of this unique and path-breaking Program.
