Uttaranchal DEOs Workshop

A workshop for all DEOs and ADEOs of Uttaranchal Government was organised on 19th and 20th of August 2006, at DIET Dehradun, Sports College, Raipur, Dehradun, under the aegis of Intel® Teach Program.

Objectives

  • To orient, clear the concepts and update all ADEOs/DEOs of the state on Intel® Teach Program with emphasis on the ‘Aarohi Program.’
  • To initiate utilisation of potent resources of the education department of Uttaranchal to the optimum for judicious use of technology Integration in education.

It was attended by Ms Seema Jaunsari, deputy director education, government of Uttaranchal, Ms. Pushplata Tamat, deputy director education, government of Uttaranchal, Mr. S S Negi, principal, DIET Dehradun, Uttaranchal, Mr. Ashish Bisht, state coordinator Azim Premji Foundation to name a few. All the districts were represented by either DEOs or ADEOs.

Proceedings

On behalf of Intel® Teach Program, the state coordinator, Ms Kanta Chaudhry welcomed Ms Seema Jaunsari, Ms P. Tamta, DEOs, ADEOs and all other government officials. Ms Seema Janusari appreciated the efforts of Intel in organising the workshop. She elaborated that the workshop would be of immense help to the government officials to acquire more information, as well as be able to differentiate between computer literacy, technology aided teaching and learning program. She thereafter declared the workshop open. The resource persons were Ms.Kanta Chaudhry and Ms Sapna Bist.

Ms.Kanta Chaudhry updated the audience on the work done by Intel® Teach Program. She shared the number of teachers impacted in the State and implementation of Technology Aided Learning, Project Based Learning plus IMRB survey results.

The importance of DEOs in the state was highlighted by saying “DEO’s are the backbone of the education system of the state. They are the functional on ground working hands of the education system”. The workshop included discussions on role and responsibility plus endeavors to be achieved by DEOs/ADEOs. Some ideas and fruitful suggestions were offered by the participants.

The ‘Hands On’ session involved active participation and lot of queries were answered to understand the applications.The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the state coordinator of Intel® Teach Program.

In spite of one of the concerns being lack of adequate infrastructure in the offices of DEOs/ADEOs, the workshop engrossed the participants and they eagerly participated in all the proceedings. The state coordinator of Azim Premji Foundation, Mr. Ashish Bisht suggested commencement of the Intel® Teach Program in primary schools.
